MARCH TOURNAMENT
The March tournament will be held March 23 & 24, 2002. It will be a Mixed Doubles tournament. If you are planning to play, please sign up by Friday, March 22 at 7:30 P.M. at the clubhouse in Borrego Springs. If you cannot be at the clubhouse by 7:00 P.M., please ask someone who will be there to sign up for you. You may also sign up by phoning Gary Edwards at home at 619-390-8412 before Thursday of that week or trying his cell phone at 619-992-8412. PLEASE LET GARY KNOW WHETHER YOU ARE COMING BY 7:30 P.M. SO THAT HE CAN BEGIN THE DRAW. The draw will be completed by 9:00 P.M. and play will begin on Saturday at 8:00 A.M. We had a great February tournament with 63 people playing and great weather so we look forward to seeing many of you in March!
MARCH HIKE
In February we had a great hike to Ghost Mountain, so we plan to schedule another hike in March. We will be hiking the Cactus Loop Trail which begins a few yards north of Tamarisk Grove about 14 miles from the tennis center. The one-mile loop trail involves a moderately steep, rocky climb through a rich variety of native cactus species. The northern portion of the trail offers an outstanding display of hundreds of teddybear cholla. You will also see beavertail, barrel, fishhook and hedgehog cacti. We hope by then the cacti will be in bloom. If you would like to join us on this hike, meet in the parking lot of the Borrego clubhouse at 8:00 A.M. on Friday, March 22.
SAN CLEMENTE CAMPOUT SEPTEMBER 26-30
Its time again to thing about the BSTC annual campout at San Clemente State Beach campground. This is not a tournament, but an extra event that we have enjoyed for several years. We plan to be there on September 26 for 4 nights. Of course you may come earlier and/or stay later. The California State Park System began taking reservations for September on March 1, so it is time to phone for your reservations in the campground. The number for reservations is 1-800-444-7275. Remember to ask for the hook-up area and if you qualify (age 62+) ask for senior rates. We hope to have a great turnout for the beach, cookout, tennis & fun with BSTC friends! For those of you who dont camp, there are several motels close to San Clemente State Beach where you could stay and join us at the campground during the day.

TRIP TO LAUGHLIN APRIL 4-8
Some people were still interested in putting together a group trip to Laughlin in April. If you would like to go, several of us plan to be at the Flamingo Laughlin on April 4-8. The Flamingo has 3 tennis courts, a nice pool and a large hotel on the river. Rates range from $25 to $59 per night - make your reservations at the Flamingo Laughlin by phoning 1-800-352-6464. If you are in Laughlin in April, come out to the tennis courts at the Flamingo on Friday morning at 9:00 A.M. and Saturday morning at 9:00 A.M. so that we can get together and play tennis or just visit with our BSTC friends.
BSTC APRIL BANQUET
Borrego Springs Tennis Club will hold its traditional end of the season banquet on Saturday, April 27 at 7:00 P.M. across the street from the tennis center at Palm Canyon Resort. Betty Minkel is helping us with the banquet. Please be prepared to pay for the banquet at the March tournament or mail a check to Betty by April 15. The price will be $24 per person which includes choice of prime rib or rosemary garlic half chicken, salad, potato, vegetables, rolls, dessert and choice of coffee or iced tea. The price includes tax & tip. You may also order a vegetarian dish for the same price or a childs plate of chicken tenders for $5.
