DECEMBER TOURNAMENT

It's that time again. Our next tournament will be straight doubles on the weekend of December 7 and 8. As usual there will be a potluck at 7 on Saturday, with happy (half)hour at 6:30. Because we are now in the busy season for Borrego, it is important to make your reservations early since motels and campgrounds tend to be busy on weekends until the end of the season in late April. We hope to see you all in Borrego for this weekend.

OCTOBER TOURNAMENT

We had a good turnout for the October 26 – 27 tournament. The weather was perfect, and everyone appreciated the good condition of the grounds, since the Grangers and Whitakers have made a lot of improvements. More improvements will be evident at the next tournament, as a new floor is planned for the clubhouse. We sorely missed our president, Jim Rathbun, who was recovering from surgery during the tournament, but he will be in Borrego December 1 – 8, and will be whacking the ball with that barndoor of a tennis racquet he uses to produce those wicked slices. The following summarizes the results of the October tournament:

BORREGO NEWS

Borrego has missed the storms hitting the coast and mountains this summer, but on the late date we went to press (Nov. 27), we finally got some rain. November rains usually mean a good wildflower season next spring.

OUTER-BORREGO NEWS

Sad to report that our beloved Bill Gibson passed away on the morning of October 30th, due to recently detected liver cancer, away with his family at his bedside. For those who didn't know him, Bill came out to the club to support his tennis playing wife, Betty, while at the same time significantly contributing to the running of the tournaments. We will miss his always upbeat presence. Services were held on November 19th in Redlands. Note: If you have any news item for the next newsletter, please submit it to jef@znet.com, or call Jef.

CORRECTIONS

The online e-mail, phone directory has been updated, and a new member directory that also has addresses has been prepared and will be sent to the members with this newsletter. For those who don’t receive it, some will also be available at clubhouse in December. Please check it over for errors, and contact Jef for corrections. New members include Duke Dukarski, Sally Beiderbecke, Rosalyn Smyth.

RECYCLED E-MAIL JOKE

The CIA had an opening for an assassin.

After all of the background checks, interviews, and testing were done there were three finalists... Two men and a woman. For the final test, the CIA agents took one of the men to a large metal door and handed him a gun.

"We must know that you will follow your instructions, no matter what the circumstances. Inside of this room, you will find your wife sitting in a chair. Kill Her!!!" The man said, "You can't be serious. I could never shoot my wife." The agent said, "Then you're not the right man for this job."

The second man was given the same instructions. He took the gun and went into the room. All was quiet for about five minutes. Then the man came out with tears in his eyes. "I tried, but I can't kill my wife." The agent said, "You don't have what it takes. Take your wife and go home."

Finally, it was the woman's turn. She was given the same instructions, to kill her husband. She took the gun and went into the room. Shots were heard, one shot after another. They heard screaming, crashing, banging on the walls. After a few minutes, all was quiet. The door opened slowly and there stood the woman. She wiped the sweat from her brow, and said, "This gun is loaded with blanks. I had to beat him to death with the chair."

Moral: Women are evil. Don't mess with them.
