FEBRUARY TOURNAMENTIt's that time again. Our next tournament will be straight doubles on the weekend of February 15/16. As usual there will be a potluck at 7 on Saturday, with happy (half)hour at 6:30. The Gilloons will emcee this event, and due to new seating arrangements, we will no longer be packed like sardines! So there is one less excuse for not showing up! Because we are now in the busy season for Borrego, it is important to make your reservations early since motels and campgrounds tend to be busy on weekends until the end of the season in late April. We hope to see you all in Borrego for this weekend. If you are planning to play, you must sign up by 7:30 p.m. on Friday, February 14 (Valentines Day). Signup at clubhouse, or contact Gary Edwards: phone 619-390-8412, e-mail: garyre@cox.net, cel: 619-992-8412. The draw will be completed by 9:00 P.M. and play will begin on Saturday at 8:00 A.M.
JANUARY TOURNAMENTWe had a fair turnout of 46 contestants for the January 11 - 12 tournament. The weather, again, was perfect, and more improvements in the facility were evident, including the near completion of the new swimming pool and renovations in both bathrooms.

BORREGO NEWSThere was a good turnout for Sandi’s tournament on the 24-26th. The weather has been perfect all month, averaging about 10°F above normal. However, if the current dry weather continues much longer, this will be another poor wildflower year.
JANUARY BORREGO HIKE 10 people showed up to hike in the Lower Willows in Coyote Canyon. Weather was perfect, birds were singing (Harold identified a male Phainopepla), and even some flowers were evident (bladderpod, chuparosa). In the anthropological area, We found the rock that had both a pictograph and a mortero. Harold identified one of the birds we saw. On the drive up, Spence reported water coming up from his gear shift while fording at 2nd crossing. Also 6 of us hiked up to the top the the bypass road, and looked down into Collins Valley.

A farmer goes out one day and buys a brand new stud rooster for his chicken coop.
The new rooster struts over to the old rooster and says, "OK old fart, time for you to retire."
The old rooster replies, "Come on, surely you cannot handle ALL of these chickens. Look what it has done to me. Can't you just let me have the two old hens over in the corner?"
The young rooster says, "Beat it: You are washed up and I am taking over."
The old rooster says, "I tell you what, young stud. I will race you around the farmhouse. Whoever wins gets the exclusive domain over the entire chicken coop."
The young rooster laughs. "You know you don't stand a chance old man. So just to be fair I will give you a head start."
The old rooster takes off running. About 15 seconds later the young rooster takes off running after him.
They round the front porch of the farmhouse and the young rooster has closed the gap. He is already about 5 inches behind the old rooster and gaining fast.
The farmer, meanwhile, is sitting in his usual spot on the front porch when he sees the roosters running by. He grabs his shotgun and - BOOM! He blows the young rooster to bits.
The farmer sadly shakes his head and says "Dammit....third gay rooster I bought this month."
Moral of this story....Don't mess with the OLD FARTS - age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill!
