APRIL 12-13 TOURNAMENT - STRAIGHT DOUBLESIt's that time again. Our next tournament will be mixed doubles on the weekend of April 12/13. The April banquet will be held at the club on Saturday, the 12th, at 7 p.m., and will be catered by Bernards for all who have given Betty Minkel the $17/head. Margaritas and appetizers (Jef can't spell o'erderves) will be provided by various club members for the 6:30 happy hour. If you don't want margaritas, BYOB. The Beans will emcee the dinner and tournament awards ceremony this month. Because this time in April is still part of the busy season, it is important to make your reservations early. A few members found no rooms available for the March tournament. We hope to see you all in Borrego for this weekend. If you are planning to play, you must sign up by 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 11. Signup at clubhouse, or contact Gary Edwards: phone 619-390-8412, e-mail: garyre@cox.net, cel: 619-992-8412. The draw will be completed by 9:00 P.M. and play will begin on Saturday at 8:00 A.M.
MARCH TOURNAMENTWe had a good turnout of 47 contestants for the March 22 - 23 tournament. The Marines final tournament match was called a draw, as Joel injured his knee while his team was up 7-1, and retired. Sonja provided the photos below. Thanks, Sonja!
TOURNAMENT NEWS The McClures did a great job of emcee-ing the potluck. Kon told some great jokes (e.g. Why did the gum cross the road? ... because it was stuck to the chicken's foot, of course!). Tatiana gave a great speech... The meanest mom. Barbara Rathbun and the Borrego Chorale sang 4 great songs. The weather, as usual, was near-perfect with highs in the 80s, not much wind, and lots of sun. From all the splashing in the pool, it sounds like many have a solution for when the weather gets on the warm side. Sonja McGrath won the $50 tournament prize! Congratulations, Sonja!

MARCH HIKENine hikers braved the wilds of the south fork of Palm Wash. This was a mostly level hike of between 3 and 4 miles, and featured seeing a rattlesnake, walking under a natural bridge, and squeezing thru a slot canyon. Harriet provided these excellent photos of the hike. Thanks, Harriet!
