JANUARY 14 - 15, 2006 TOURNAMENT - MIXED DOUBLES
The next tournament will be the weekend of January 14 - 15, 2006. This is peak season, so get lodging reservations early. If you are planning to play, you must sign up by 7:30 p.m. on the eve of the tournament. Sign-up at the clubhouse, or contact Jef: phone 760-767-4544, e-mail: jef@itforsb.net, or if all else fails, call the tennis center at 760-767-0577 the Friday night before the tournament (definitely before 8 p.m.). The draw will be completed by around 9:00 P.M. and play will begin on Saturday at 8:00 a.m. If you want us to call you with the start time, add your phone number with your name when you sign up. Also, if you are just joining the club, please provide contact information, preferably an e-mail address, if you wish to receive a newsletter, and if you want to be listed in the club's directory. If you want to share and consume goodies, there will be a Goody Bar in the clubhouse on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
SATURDAY POTLUCKThe happy hour/potluck will occur 6:30/7 p.m., Saturday night, January 14, 2006, at the tennis center. If you want to contribute to the door prizes, remember to place them in the door prize area before dinner.
DECEMBER 2nd HIKEJef and Kathy led a 3.5 mile hike to the peak of Lute Fault. Harriet, Carole, and Bonnie completed the hike in 2 hours.

Mysterious fog to the east
JANUARY 13th HIKEJef and Kathy will lead another (approximately 2 hour) hike on the Friday before the tournament. There may be up to 45 minutes of driving time (each way) to reach the hike area, depending on the selected location. Meet in the parking lot in front of the clubhouse on Palm Canyon Drive at 9 a.m. on Friday, if you wish to come along. Plan on returning by noon.

BORREGO NEWS Ocotillos were colored green and red over the holiday season, adding natural decorations to the desert. The Roadrunner Club had its usual luminario display on Christmas Eve.
DECEMBER TOURNAMENT We had a good turnout of 48 contestants for the December 3 - 4, 2005 straight doubles tournament. Weather was just fine, with not too much wind and ideal temperatures. John Schultz and Gary Edwards did most of the work when assisting Jef in organizing the tournament. John managed to do a great job in balancing the draw, and Gary did a great job in scheduling. Holley Charron drew Borden Granger's name in the $50 drawing at the end of the tournament. Pictures below are by Jef and Kathy.

MEMBER HEALTHBarbara McClure is still recovering. Dave Quimby got a temporary hip replacement the week after the last tournament. The doctor said the operation went perfectly. John Schultz had another knee operation the week after the last tournament, and all went well with that.
