The next tournament will be the weekend of March 25 - 26, 2006. This is peak season, so get lodging reservations early. If you are planning to play, you must sign up by 7:30 p.m. on the eve of the tournament. Sign-up at the clubhouse, or contact Jef or Kathy: phone 760-767-4536, e-mail: jef@itforsb.net, or if all else fails, call the tennis center at 760-767-0577 the Friday night before the tournament (definitely before 8 p.m.). Also, if you are just joining the club, please provide contact information, preferably an e-mail address, if you wish to receive a newsletter, and if you want to be listed in the club's directory. If you want to share and consume goodies, there will be a Goody Bar in the clubhouse on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
SATURDAY POTLUCKThe happy hour/potluck will occur 6:30/7 p.m., Saturday night, March 25, 2006, at the tennis center. If you want to contribute to the door prizes, remember to place them in the door prize area before dinner.
MARCH 24 HIKEJef and Kathy will lead another (approximately 2 hour) hike on the Friday before the tournament. There may be up to 45 minutes of driving time (each way) to reach the hike area, depending on the selected location. Meet in the parking lot in front of the clubhouse on Palm Canyon Drive at 9 a.m. on Friday, if you wish to come along. Plan on returning by noon.
FEBRUARY 17 HIKEJef and Kathy led 5 others on a 4 mile, 900' up, 1200' down, shuttle hike. We started at the Hellhole Canyon trailhead, just over 1 mile from the club, hiked up the California Riding and Hiking Trail to the junction with the old trail, took the old trail down to Montezuma Road, and continued over the Borrego Spur, ending at the Lutheran Church parking lot. Participants included the Dows, Manfred, Carole, and Peg. We observed outstanding views of the valley, as well as some wild flowers.

They even noticed snow in Beaumont and Banning! The Granger tournament, featuring a clinic from French Open doubles champion Luke Jensen, starts March 16.
FEBRUARY TOURNAMENT We had a medium turnout of 40 contestants for the February 18 - 19, 2006 mixed doubles tournament. Weather was fairly nice, despite some rain during each night. Gary Edwards did most of the work when assisting Jef in organizing the tournament. Harold came up with the team names. Al Lieb won the $50 prize.

SAN CLEMENTE CAMPOUTIt's time to think about our annual San Clemente Campout. The democratically decided weekend is that of Sep 16 & 17.
If you would like to join us camping at San Clemente State Beach, you must make reservations either via the internet or by phone. The campground fills up quickly on weekends, so it is important to get reservations early. The earliest date to make reservations for September is Wednesday, March 1 at 8:00 A.M. PST. If you do not make them that day, you may not get reservations. You may make reservations on the internet at www.reserveamerica.com or by phone at 1-800-444-7275. As for the hook-up area and ask for senior rate, if you qualify for that.
We hope to see many of you in San Clemente for a weekend of camping, tennis, beach and fellowship. We usually plan a group potluck on Saturday night. Some of us arrive a day or two early and/or stay another day or two. Come join us in San Clemente!
MEMBER HEALTHBarbara McClure hit some tennis balls during the last tournament and will hopefully be playing in our tournaments soon. Dave Quimby's hip operation is scheduled for April 1. Mary's knee surgery took place on the last week of February. They both have family helping out currently. Barb McClure is back on the court and doing well.

RECYCLED E-MAIL JOKE circulated by Fred W, Aug 5, 2002WHAT GENDER ARE THEY?
- ZIPLOC BAGS - male, because they hold everything in, but you can always see right through them.
- SWISS ARMY KNIFE - male, because even though it appears useful for a wide variety of work, it spends most of its time just opening bottles.
- KIDNEYS - female, because they always go to the bathroom in pairs.
- SHOE - male, because it is usually unpolished, with its tongue hanging out.
- COPIER - female, because once turned off, it takes a while to warm up.
- TIRE - male, because it goes bald and often is over inflated.
- HOT AIR BALLOON - male, because to get it to go anywhere you have to light a fire under it... and, of course, there's the hot air part.
- SPONGES - female, because they are soft and squeezable and retain water.
- WEB PAGE - female, because it is always getting hit on.
- SUBWAY - male, because it uses the same old lines to pick people up.
- HOURGLASS - female, because over time, the weight shifts to the bottom.
- HAMMER - male, because it hasn't evolved much over the last 5,000 years, but it's useful to have around.
- REMOTE CONTROL - female... Ha! You'd think it'd be male. But consider, it gives men pleasure, he'd be lost without it, and while he doesn't always know the right buttons to push, he keeps trying.
