A yellow round fuzzy object high in the night sky and a racing comet occurring at the same time. Was this a sign of things to come? Could this be a warning. Is this end??!! No, it was just another fabulous weekend at the Tennis Club in Borrego Springs.
This month's special Tournament is scheduled for May16 - 18. Bring a pal along to play in our friendly games in the sun. Make sure to call or John Schultz no later than the Friday night before the tournament. More information on this tournament is located later in this newsletter. If you still have questions, John can be reached by:
If you need a place to stay, we have a couple of places to recommend. The Hyland Motel has agreed to give BSTC a discount price of $36.00 a night for the tournament. Mention your membership. Their phone number is (714) 990-6867. Keep in mind that this is a clean, no-frills motel. If you are a member of AAA, you can get a rate of $48 at the Heritage Inn, (714) 447-9200. Also, Jim & Barbara Rathbun have opened up their house to anyone who needs a place to stay. Jim and Barbara can reach at (562)433-1734. It is advised that members, especially the ones in RVs bring extra tables and chairs. Don't forget to thank the Schultz's for setting this one up. Everyone have a great summer!

Note: Their were some many substitutions during the round robin that it was hard to keep track of who was on who's team. So if I missed a name, my apologies.
Ball in Mouth Trophy
This honor had been in the hands of Fred Wantland and with good justification. However, the editor of this majestic newsletter has made Fred's surname as "Wasteland" known throughout the club and world via the Internet. For this, I have been bestowed this beautiful piece of art which I will treasure until the beginning of next season. I thank you all....
Special Thanks:
Thank you both, Jeff and Ruth Johnson for the wonderful walks in the desert this year.

End of Season Prize Drawing for Perfect Attendance

Vacation Rental
Bob & Gladys Lehman have a vacation rental in South Lake Tahoe located close to the casino action. This is a 3 bedroom, 3.5 bath and is completely furnished. Accommodations include 4 tennis courts, spa and pool. Cost is only $650.00 a week. For more information, call Bob or Gladys at (619)744-4569
Partner Draws
A vote was taken if we should allow club member be allowed to choose their own partners. It was decided that choosing partner would not be allowed. This would prevent good players from dominating a tournament. Instead all partner would be determined by the "draw" method. This has been used and has proven to make partner choosing fair. The rule that you can not play with a partner you have won with for 6 tournaments still applies.
1997/98 Tournament Dates
