Another tournament was rained out! As unbelievable as it may seem, we have had rain for four of our six tournaments this year. We had planned to have a Team Tennis Tournament. The eight captains met Friday night and selected their teams. It rained Friday night and the courts were too wet to play Saturday morning and most of the day on Saturday. We did have a practice team tennis tournament on Sunday morning and most of the participants seemed to enjoy it. We hope to reschedule the Team Tennis Tournament for next season.

The winner of the $50 prize for participants was Neal Gobar. Congratulations, Neal!

The next tournament will be held on April 18 and 19. It will be a Straight Doubles Tournament - men's doubles and ladies doubles. Please sign up to play by Friday night. We remind you that we no longer have a pay phone at the tennis center, so you cannot use that number. 14 members set out Friday morning to see the wildflowers. They drove along DiGorgio and Henderson Canyon Roads where there were huge patches of sand verbena, dune primrose & brown-eyed primrose. Then they drove across Texas dip and to Yaqui Pass. They stopped at Tamarisk Grove Campground and took a short hike along the Cactus Loop Trail. With all the rain Borrego has had, there are many more flowers in bloom than usual. In April we will plan another hike the destination of which will depend on the weather and the wildflower bloom!

Join us for camping, beach, bike rides & tennis at San Clemente State Beach in September. The date is Thursday, September 24, 1998. Plan to stay four nights (or come earlier/stay later). John Schultz and Mary Quimby spoke with the business manager of Borrego Springs Resort Hotel about the possibility of moving our tournaments to that facility next year. Borrego Springs Resort Hotel is located at 1112 Tilting T Drive. They have 6 lighted tennis courts, a tennis pro, a locker room with shower facilities, a hotel with 2 pools and an 18-hole golf course. They are anxious to increase their tennis involvement and would be interested in having us hold our tournaments there next year. They have agreed to provide a place for our campers and the use of a banquet room for our activities. The preliminary agreement is at a price less than what we are now paying and the proposal will be presented to the membership at the next tournament.
