Cannon Party

April 30 - May 1, 2011

Evolution of a video

Jef was just piddling with this video taken from stills and videos taken between noon and 8pm on April 30th. These represent a long version montage: 5 - 6 minutes long and 50 - 60Mb in size. Sound quality and volume is fairly low, but crank up the volume and you can hear the music.

MONTAGE TAKE 1 first draft

SATURDAY April 30, 2011
Jef and Hank just came up from San Diego on Saturday (departing SD 7:15am, arriving SD SUN 1:30am). All pix on this page taken by Jefe on his Olympus Tough -- only digital camera he's had that lasted a full year with no problems! However, just as cool fireworks commenced, battery died, so camera was only working 8 of 10 hours, but he did manage to capture a few good cannon shots and some good concert footage. He played with Movie Maker and used more features (in Version 2) than version 1 or last movies from 5 or so years ago. He is still working on editing content as he gets time, but most is represented here now.

Notes on the ride up. Hank and Jef stopped at Astroburger, now a Mexican restaurant. The Astroburger is still on the menu, but is not the same and the price is now up to $8.50, too much for Hank, so they turned around and left the empty eatery on the busy weekend.

WIND Not much on Saturday, but very much so Friday night

Whirlwind on the dry lake

Raymo's shade blew over several times this weekend

Hank's wife bought him this Moser for a gift in 2005...

PAPA DON MEMORIAL and seek-and-find trip to target Hank, Jef, etc.

4 Lead miners lead the way - about 10 bullets were found on this trip

Papa Don's memento buried directly under center of target

Never seen target damage before?

Hank holding Papa Don memento.

Jef suggested putting Hank's chip, signed by Papa Don, directly under the target, where it is now buried. He put a marker cannon slug (Mark's, with cone exposed) on top to mark it. Papa Don often went on one of these cannonball seeking trips. The chip was used as a $5 chip and was signed by Don to differentiate it from a 10 cent chip. RIP our poker playing buddy, Papa Don, who attended many cannon parties before boycotting them just after Rassmussen's wedding in Utah. Probably due to having too much contact with one or 2 who sometimes attended the cannon partys.

Small firework going off

Gathering around one of the campfires
... as said above, this is when my camera ran out of batteries. Actually after a movie of a failed ignition of an exploding target -- actually succeeded after the battery ran out.
