Cannon Party, Fall 2001

Over the weekend of October 5 - 7, 2001 a total of only 13 people visited the homestead. Paco provided the only cannon.

BALLOON ANIMATION
Cassidy showed up for a few hours and tried sending up a weather balloon with Jim's truck exhaust. It seems unlikely this would work even if it was cold out, due to auto exhaust probably being heavier than air, what with unburnt hydrocarbons and C02.

Weather was calm and pleasant the entire weekend. Hank and Frank serenaded us on Saturday night.

Paco

Jef
Nice sunsets as well. Only got 2 of the 3 dawn shots, as I didn't have my camera set up right for 2nd one.

Paco on hike. There are Joshua trees near the cannon party site. Just not at it.

CANNON SHOT ANIMATION

The neighbors showed up the last day, and shot a bowling ball twice.

The first shot, at left, was a dud, sending the ball up only about 100 feet. This was due to powder being of too large a granulation.

But the second shot, right, sent the ball up over 1000 feet. This was because much more of this wrong kind of powder was used (about 8 ounces, instead of 3).
