Cannon party OBITUARIES

Papa Don (right) being interviewed in '03 for a college film project

Papa Don Chapman, passed away in late 2010. He was a regular at cannon parties until a few years prior to his death at age (approximately) 75. He always had a good time and was usually in good humor -- frequently playing practical jokes. He was an accomplished camper. More will be written when Jefe gets time, but he is missed by many.

Ruth Johnson, mother of Jefe, passed away January 4, 2007. She stayed at one cold cannon party weekend in April 2000 at the old homestead, and got to shoot the cannon once.

Alex Gaston provided the following information just after the October 15-16, 2005 cannon party:

Karl Briel, one the the original Homesteaders" he worked for Hugh at British Pacific" died over the weekend (of the October 2005 cannon party). He was at the homestead the first time I went back in 1979.

McDermot provided the following information about cannon party guy, Christopher: He never, probably, actually went to a cannon party, but search and rescue found his corpse on Friday, October 14, 2005, while Mike and Mark were at the cannon party site, within half a mile of the camp! I'm sure he would have been a fine cannon partier.

Edward was a Range Rover guy, and a real character, according to Tom Cassidy:

He, like all the others owned Land Rovers, as opposed to Range Rovers.

He was a very talented artist and model maker, working for Disney, and other studios. The Disney Hotel in Anaheim is currently going thru a complete remodel, and they will be using Eddie's concept, his vision to remodel the lobby.

Eddie was known for his great humor, wit, and wonderful belly laughs. He would hear a joke, and come back with an even better punch line.

His model making work in the studios, at home with his very extensive plastic airplane and automobile kits, carried over at Homestead, as he carefully crafted Estes stick rockets with incredible skill.

He will be greatly missed, he left us at age 51.

He joins fellow Homestead originals Alan Siebert, Pete Lyndon, and Gerry A. Gustafson, Jr. as lost brothers. A blast from the cannon and mortar are in order.

Remember Gerry Gustufson
and his classic Range Rover?

Some of his ashes were scattered at the homestead!
