After Julie's boyfriend at the time, Felix, twisted my arm, we flew out to visit mom, Julie, and Elsa in Mineral Wells TX. We did things like go to the drive-in, and swim/camp at mom's place at the Brazos. We also build a deck out there. Think I worked with Ben Nicks, an 85-year old cowboy type, weeding a Pecan grove. We drove to Arizona to pick up Elsa's horse, Chile Pequin (formerly Julie's horse), at her private school in Arizona. Trailer fell over midway, and Julie, Elsa and I, who were sitting on the floor of the van were thrown several feet during the rapid deceleration (trailers have a lot of friction when they are on their sides). Fortuneately, 2 cowboys were just passing by, and rotated the 4 horse trailer back onto it's wheels (they must have been BIG cowboys). Trailer never came off its hitch! Then the hitch came off the ball on the bumpy road just a mile short of the Orme school. After we got there, the horse didn't want to leave. It jumped out of the trailer, kicked in the back window of the van, and had to be rescued (lying on its back, still tied to trailer). Mom donated the horse to the school, and we came back with an empty trailer. | |||||

After classes, Julie, Felix and I went to Balboa Park:
Drove with Julie and her boyfriend, Felix, from Solana Beach to Orme AZ to attend sister Elsa's graduation. California governor Reagan was there, as his daughter was also graduating. He towered over everyone at the reception. He's a pretty big guy! Elsa gave the valedictory speech.

We drove Elsa back to Solana Beach where she stayed for Julie's graduation from UCSD the following month.

We visited dad during after the graduation. We may have visited grandpa, who was in bad shape at this time, having many heart attacks and both legs gone.
