On the 28th, Holly and Esteban had a 'windfall' party after getting a judgement from a suit launched by a visiting sleezeball lawyer, against their last landlord: $33K. Great party. I think this is the party where Andy Jones met Val: Team Jones is a mainstay at the cannon parties, and have their own cannon. Andy was a marine recruiter at the time, and Val wound up working at Emerald Systems as a tester. Croquet was the main event, and we had games going all day. The keg was something like Labatts. Dom Perignon was also there.

Esteban wearing a cannon shot t-shirt and Emerald cap(both may have been mine, as I was working at Emerald and was 1st to blast a hole in a t-shirt). Thus, this had to be October 1988 cannon party at "the homestead"

Near the start of this month, I think Dad and Leny picked me up and drove me to Socorro NM, where Julie got married to Steve on the 5th. On the way (almost to Socorro), we stopped in Magdelena NM, where we briefly visited with some distant(?) relative, Beverly, who has since passed away. Dad and Leny then drove me back to Borrego, as I was in between contract job at NCR and Emerald job.

Went to OTL with Paco this month. We got separated and only connected back at Paco's folks house in Sunset Cliffs.

Bought a bed that travelled with me for decades to come. In 2010, it was the bed in Jef and Kathy's guesthouse on WestStar.

Went to one of Esteban's parties in Encinitas, learned how to play high-hole poker. Met Bob Brown.

Started job at Emerald Systems, working under Bob Brown as a software engineer developing Windows tape back-up software.

Sometime around now, contract job at NCR terminated.

Moved 50 yards away from last townhouse apartment on Caminito Canasto in Rancho Bernardo to another one at 17322 Ruette Abeto, with Paco. Still less than 2 miles (walking distance) from my contracting job at NCR. This one was 2 stories high, larger, but cheaper, since not in mint condition, but not too bad.

This is probably the month Stevey took his VW bus up to Cannon Party, but it broke down (at night) just before Temecula. Jef and Paco were in the caravan (Jef riding with Paco in "Big Brown"). We went to local bar to see what could be done. When it was determined no solution existed that night, Jef suggested Paco pull Stevey back to RB and we take Big Brown and Little Red, instead.

With such a short tow rope, Steve said it was the most dangerous situation he was ever in, driving the towed bus back the 30 miles back to RB.

On Sunday at the Cannon party, Jef took off in the morning in Little Red, while Steve and Paco tooled around in Big Brown. The engine disintegrated while coming down from the Burro Schmidt mine and they coasted to the road (due to the added stress of towing the bus for 30 miles, at Jef's suggestion, a couple days prior). Stevey stood guard of all the guns and such in the truck while Paco hitched a ride to town. He got a tow to Mojave and the 2 camped with a family there while they spent a week swapping out the engine.

The son of the family ran into a telephone pole after falling asleep at wheel while getting parts for Big Brown. The family later abandoned the home when the power company wanted compensation for their pole. All this could be blamed on Jef's suggestion that Friday night in Temecula, and Jef leaving early from Cannon Party.

Starting somewhere around this time, got together with Craig to play tennis & poker.

Uncle Francis died this month in Portland. He was my dad's only brother-in-law. My dad talked with him on his deathbed and reminisced about the time the 2 of them were boating off Rincon Point, and the outboard motor dropped overboard. Also when the 2 of them were rabbit hunting, and dad missed with the shotgun, but Francis shot it with his pistol at my dad's feet. Also when Francis successfully smuggled liquor in the ammo compartments of fighter planes when he was in Okinawa in WWII.

He managed to back out, get in front of me, and pull me out. We spent the weekend at the hot springs there. Un dollar por dia.
