Meyer Valley
Southern part of Anza Borrego State Park
1995?

Starting point of hike
middle of road, old Hwy 80.
A palm can be seen in the
wash just below this highway.
Hiked this only once. I didn't go the right direction, but hike was very unusual. How many hikes do you go on where you drive a couple of miles down an abandoned state highway, park in the middle of the road, right at the point where the old highway abruptly ends at a 50' cliff that drops off just above an interstate? Walking under the interstate in a huge drainage pipe, 30' in diameter is quite unusual.

This is the heaviest concentration of barrel cactus I've ever seen. I stumbled on this while going over the wrong pass. Never did make it to the cool Meyer Valley palm oasis, so I guess I'll save that for some other time.
