Blue Ridge to Baaden-Powell Backpack
PCT near Wrightwood (1 nite, 20 miles round trip)
August 10-11, 1997

Aug 10-11:
Saturday: I & Karen hiked the PCT (10 miles each way) from Blue Ridge parking lot near Wrightwood to middle of Baden-Powell above Lamel Springs. Loads of flowers & great weather. We camped at remote campsite on side of Mtn. to avoid strong winds at top. Made cel-phone call from tent!

Sunday: On way back, Karen slid head-first, but safely into 2nd base at parking lot & had a good trophy wound on her hand. We made it back to the car, the only one in the parking lot, & with the sign in the window (costing $10) now required by the local Natl. Forest advertising that we were going to be away for 24 hours. And the car was STILL there, and undamaged! Very surprising. Karyn is shown at right near start.

At left, Jef is hiking at end of Lamel Springs side-trail. At right, Karyn is walking thru a chaparel tunnel.

Did you know the Jeffrey Pine smells like Cherry-Vanilla? Almost makes me want to hug that tree.
