Cowles Mountain
Elevation 1,590'
hiked many dozens of times by Jef, 1993-7

Here is Mari, who first dragged me to the top sometime in the early '90's. Several approaches can be taken, but my favorite are the southeast approaches that start at the fireroad on Barker. My best fireroad/Barker Trail loop (3+ miles) time is 22 minutes to top, 38 min, 40 sec round trip. I usually take buzzer via the short, least traveled route up Barker Trail.

This is a rerouted section near the bottom of the main Barker Trail. Note the red monkey flowers blooming in the foreground.

This is Lou, December 10, 1997, just after he returned from his expedition to Kilamanjaro. He told me of the X-mas party Decmeber 18, from which I just returned. There was quite a crowd today at 10, where I again saw Lou and also Jim McKay and Terry.

Here is the party Lou told me about last week, on the summit on December 18, 1997 at about 9:30 am. It had been going on for a while beforehand.

A real photographer was there, but I only have my mediocre photos to show here. Here he is descending from the highest vantage point.

Here is some of the food at the top. Quite a feast. The organizer guy, I don't know his name, gave out newsletters and lottery tickets. My two were both winners yielding $12!

As if there wasn't enough, Jim brought a feast of his own at about 9:30.

Here is Terry talking to Jim at party.
