Jef near Whale Peak summit 12/93. To the left is a blooming Nolina Yucca. The trees are Pinyon pines. The view is to the north, and the Santa Rosas are in the far distance. Photo by mom. |
First hiked from Pinyon Mountain Road with mom. A few months later, early in 1994, I hiked this with Jim McKay, Mari and Laura. Both were wonderful hikes. Whale Peak is an excellent destination, with tremendous views, nice vegetation: pine scented, nice shade, tall nolinas, some manzanita. All along the hike are very large boulders. These add to the challenge of the hike, especially near the top. |
