Jef near Whale Peak summit 12/93. To the left is a blooming Nolina Yucca. The trees are Pinyon pines. The view is to the north, and the Santa Rosas are in the far distance. Photo by mom.

First hiked from Pinyon Mountain Road with mom. A few months later, early in 1994, I hiked this with Jim McKay, Mari and Laura. Both were wonderful hikes. Whale Peak is an excellent destination, with tremendous views, nice vegetation: pine scented, nice shade, tall nolinas, some manzanita. All along the hike are very large boulders. These add to the challenge of the hike, especially near the top.
