Ocotillo Wind Renewable Energy Project
Speaker: Mark Jorgenson, retired park supervisor
The Plan is to put 200+, 460 ft. tall wind driven generators just north of Interstate 8 near Ocotillo, Ca. This project has to be completed this year or lose federal subsidy assistance. The Bush and Obama administrations have both “fast tracked” many green projects. This process circumvents many established EPA rules and regulations. Since this project is primarily to benefit the San Diego area there is no resultant decrease in rates for our area.

Meetings are held to hear testimony for(technical, concrete products, Haulers) and against(Native Americans, EPA, Locals).Previous restrictions by EPA and other green environmental agencies are being ignored.

Current Wind turbines kill 60 Golden Eagles each year. There are only 600 pair of these birds in existence. Green energy costs more than fossil fuel derived energy.

Mark’s purpose of his talk was to highlight the controversy over wind projects and to show that there are two sides to the proposals

COMMITMENT
MAY

Taste of Borrego made possible due to the commitment of all members. The OWLC is a reality. Member recruiting has been a big success, but Bill claims the club will do even better next year with everyon's help. Best wishes to all for a great summer and a quick return in October.

CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE RAM'S HORN
Each year the goal of the web page and the newsletter is to report on the club’s activities. The role of the newsletter is to inform and educate. Why not try doing it, you will like it. One of the most important tools that should be given to every member is an updated member book at the first meeting in July. How can members understand Rotary unless they have a copy? Why not send the member book electronically? There seems to be confusion as to the operating and foundation budgets. Every member should have a clear understanding what funds go to operations and which go to the foundation. There seems to be puzzlement as to how the annual budgets are presented and approved. Reporting the results of a fund raising event should be right after the event or ASAP. If budgets are completed using accepted principles, it should be rare to have budget meetings.
Raffle was won by Elaine who donated her winnings to the Rotary Club. Submitted by Bill Lewis. Temporary Secretary Editor Kathleen Johnson jefbstc@gmail.com
