Announcements
Because of the death of Laura Brecht's mother, we offer our deepest sympathy for her loss. Laura leaves for the services this week.
Many people showed up to work on the Miss Borrego float, including Sue & Haddon Salt, Kay Bailey, Andrew Przestalski. It is now "safe and sound", and the seats have been covered to protect the girl's dresses & it is "clean as a whistle". Bill Lewis gives his praise for all the help and work that was performed on that day.
Kaye Bailey reports there will be a meeting for the Tamale Festival at Coldwell Banker tomorrow, Thursday, October 18, 2012 between 4 and 5pm.
The foundation meeting will be at 9am following this meeting.
If you have not had the opportunity to sign in to help with the Borrego Days breakfast, please do. Turn in the money for the tickets sold. There will be several raffles at the breakfast.
Induction
John Hickman sponsored by Martha Deichler. He is the golf pro at the Borrego Springs Resort. He was presented with his Rotary pin, cup, book and T-shirt and John presented his sponsor's pin.
Presentation speakers: Josh Painter, Michele Delgadillo
The top 8th graders (those who have been identified as potential leaders in the future) were sent to a leadership camp. It was held at Camp Fox near Lake Henshaw. They are here today to talk about their experiences:
Michele: thanked Rotary for letting her go to the leadership camp. At 1st, she was fearful, but as she met new friends and joined the activities, she enjoyed her experience.
Josh: thanked Rotary also. He had to work with a team and because this, he now understands the importance of working with a team and will apply this later to his life. For him, his favorite part was the Rotary olympics. Also was very nervous at first, but that changed when he got into the classes.
The 2 kids were asked what was the most improtant thing they learned. Michele said they were taught the importance of "a firm handshake" and "a smile" when meeting anyone in the future.
Josh said "fairness" - 2 teams worked against each other as a model and then we had to evaluate each team for the fairness of their team.
